We have all heard stories about domestic violence, as it affects one in four women in their lifetime. This impacts more women than breast cancer, ovarian cancer and lung cancer combined! Knowing domestic violence can be physical, financial and verbal, it’s time to chat about the Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse Challenge!
Actress and domestic violence activist, Kerry Washington, serves as an ambassador to help bring the Purple Purse Challenge to the nation’s attention. To raise awareness, Washington has designed a limited-edition purple purse, which is cute and sassy! The Allstate Foundation is producing 80,000 purple purse charms and tassels, which will be sent to Purple Purse challenge participants and agents! That’s great news and a fun way to show your support. Plus, each tassel has a removable card featuring one of five survivor stories. I teared up a bit when I read mine!
I wear my purple tassel on my purse proudly, since awareness is key. Two thirds of Americans understand that domestic violence is a serious issue, so there’s a third of the population that doesn’t talk about it! It’s good to know the program will benefit more than 140 national, state and local domestic violence organizations. The funds raised will support life-changing financial empowerment services to help domestic violence survivors build safer lives for not only themselves, but for their families as well.
Head on over to Purple Purse website through October 3rd to join the Challenge and help a nonprofit close to your city!
