Summer is the perfect time to buy fresh berries (or pick them, if you have access to a farm!) We would always find wild blackberries behind our house in Louisiana, so it’s definitely something I miss now that we’re in Texas. (Or I need to find one of those farms!)
Luckily, our local farmer’s market sells fresh blackberries every year. They are perfectly ripe, with just the right amount of sweetness – great for blackberry dumplings or blackberry smoothies!
With just a few ingredients, my children know they can have a blackberry smoothie whenever they ask for them. It’s a great start to the day, a healthy snack or a nice dessert!
Blackberry Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 2-3 cups of fresh blackberries (washed and dried)
- 1 cup plain low-fat yogurt
- 1 cup milk (adding more if the smoothie is too thick)
- 2 tablespoons honey (optional)
- 1 cup of ice
Add all ingredients to the blender, and blend until smooth. This recipe makes 2-3 smoothies, depending on size.
You can use raspberries in place of the blackberries, just adjust the honey as needed.
