After going to a dance bar this weekend, I realized that (almost) every guy in the building wore a cowboy hat. I know we live in TX, but we’re not from TX. Hince, my children have never worn a ‘real’ cowboy hat. With the stock show coming up next weekend, I figured we should invest in hats, so the five of us don’t stick out like a sore thumb for the rest of our lives!
So I started shopping online. The terms like straw, felt, concho, pinched, cattleman, and outback all confuesed me….I had no idea what I was looking for, and no idea what the difference was in each. A hat is a hat, right? Apparantly not.
Now I am asking for recommendations. I am looking for hats for my children. I know I want the boys to have black, but that’s it. Do the different types mean different things? I don’t want to buy them a cattleman hat if that means we raise cattle….if you get the idea.
Any help would be appreciated. (And yes, I put stress on the any part.)
You really need to talk to Wes. He is a "hat" guy. A general rule of thumb to keep in mind…Straw after Memorial Day, Felt after Labor Day. However I do know some that will wear a straw after Easter as it gets so hot here. Brad at Cavenders Western Store by Hulan Mall is great at explaining current styles.
