crispy fried onion rings

Crispy Shoestring Onion Rings are my favorite. There is a restaurant in Bourg, Louisiana (Daniel’s) that serves these. Onion Rings and a “Lil’ Dan” would complete my order on a good summer day.

When I moved to Texas, however, these crispy onion rings weren’t so easy to find. So we had to come up with a crispy fried onion ring recipe for ourselves. My children love them because they don’t contain (huge) noticeable onions.  I love them because they are oh-so-good!

Crispy Shoestring Onion Rings

1 large onion, cut into 1/4 inch slices
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 1/2 C flour
2 teaspoons seasoning salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
vegetable oil for frying

Heat oil to 350 degrees. Combine the eggs with milk and seasonings. Add a handful of onions to the egg mixture, then coat in flour mixture. Transfer onions to hot oil and cook until golden brown. Remove and place on folded paper towels to absorb the excess oil.

The onion rings are great by themselves, but even better when dipped in this sauce!

  1. Those look pretty good…. and I’m no onion lover! I love, love, LOVE your fried pickle recipe (and sauce), too. Tasty!
