About two months ago, we bought a dog. Before that, we only had a fish. It was a
big huge transition, but my children love having another pet who they can actually go outside and have fun with! Our dog is a lab and she is young. She is active and always wants to play!
When shopping for dog toys, I looked at the simplicity of some of the items. A tennis ball? A sock? A rope knot? I threw them into my cart, then thought how easy they would be to make!
You will need: a tennis ball
Don’t spend extra money on a “special” ball for your pet. Visit your local sports department and pick up a few regular tennis balls for the same price.
The Sock & Ball
You will need: a sturdy sock and an old tennis ball
Place the ball inside the sock, and push it down to the toe-end. Tie a knot just above the ball to seal it.
The Crackling Sock
You will need: a small empty plastic bottle and a sock
Start by removing the cap off of your plastic bottle and tossing it into the trash. Squeeze all of the air out of the bottle, and place the bottle inside of an old sock. Tie a knot in the end of the sock to keep the bottle inside. Dogs will enjoy the crackling plastic noise.
The Rope Knot
You will need: a small piece of rope 8″- 12″
Tie a knot in the middle of the rope. Dogs love chewing and tugging on the knot! Tug of war, anyone?
The Snack Sock
You will need: 2 socks and small dog treats
Place the snacks inside one sock and then fold or ball it up. Put this sock inside another sock and tie a loose knot to seal the first one inside. Dogs will smell the snack and find a way to untie the knot!
