There are 3 males in my house: My husband and our 2 sons. It’s pretty apparent that if/when I say the word “superhero” I get their attention. It seriously works every time… even when I think they are not listening.
When my husband took our oldest son to see Guardians of the Galaxy in the theater, my son came home and begged me to buy the DVD when it was released. I made a promise because after all the hype, I knew it was a movie I wanted to see, too. I also knew it would be our next choice for a family movie night.
Last week, I went to Walmart and purchased the Guardians of the Galaxy DVD in the movie section. I found out that when you purchase the DVD, you will receive an exclusive Character O-sleeve and exclusive music zinepack. You will also receive a 64 page magazine with cast and crew interviews, exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and trivia PLUS a custom “cassette” laptop decal, which I may have been overly excited about! This DVD would be perfect for anyone on your Christmas list this season.
My 5 year old found a liking to Groot and Star-Lord, but I thought he might be too young to watch a PG-13 film. So I bought him one of the many toys from Walmart then agreed on a family fun craft so he could still partake in some Guardians of the Galaxy excitement!
We decided our favorite character would be Groot, who is an extraterrestrial plant monster who captures our attention in the film. So we went with a handprint Groot craft, which was the perfect prequel to the film.
I hit up my paint stash and found brown, tan, white and black paint. Combine the brown and tan to make a dark tan (or light brown) color. If you don’t have tan, just use the white to lighten up the brown.
I painted my son’s hand, then had him make a print on a sheet of construction paper.
Once the paint was dry, we added two dots for eyes and used a black magic marker to draw on a smile.
We let that dry for a second then he wrote the words “I am Groot” to the top. I’m pretty sure that was each of the children’s favorite part… just to say “I am Groot” for themselves.
This craft took about ten minutes, and finished with a big bowl of popcorn! The younger children went upstairs to play with their new Guardians toys while the older ones watched the Guardians of the Galaxy DVD. Don’t forget, you will get a $5 Walmart gift card instantly, when you purchase a Groot, Drax or Rocket Raccoon figure for Disney Infinity 2.0 through 12/13.
This is the easiest and most fun craft I’ve seen for Guardians of the Galaxy so far! #client
