Last week, I flew to Los Angeles with Disney for the premiere of The Muppets Most Wanted Movie. There were many interviews and opportunities, with one I will remember the most – an interview with The Muppets them selves: Kermit, Miss Piggy and Constantine.
As the talented actors carried The Muppets in, the characters came to life as the humans seemed to disappear within a few minutes. The actions of The Muppets were just as though we were watching them on television, with a little smack talk and lots of laughter. These guys sure do know how to keep the magic alive!
Kermit (walking into the room): Pardon us for being carried in by men. It’s the only way we can get in the room you know.
Miss Piggy: That’s how I always make an entrance though.
And when I say it just got better from there, it just got better from there! The best way to start an interview is with an ice breaker, right? Take a look at the first part of the interview:
Constantine: How does this work? Do we ask them questions?
Kermit: No, no, no. They ask us questions.
Constantine: All right fine. Who’s first?
QUESTION: Constantine and Kermit, is it boxers or briefs?
Kermit: Oh I’m definitely boxers myself, although I’m nothing right now.
Constantine: I just like to go free and easy.
Miss Piggy: Do not lie to all these people. (Speaking to Kermit) They can, they can see the answer right now.
Constantine: I am more honest than you. I wear nothing.
Kermit: No, I do like to wear boxers. Every chance I get. I look ridiculous in them.
Not to be outdone by the questions being asked to only the men, Miss Piggy seemed to glow when asked about her wedding gown.
QUESTION: You always look so fashionable Miss Piggy. I was wondering if you have a favorite designer and how was it working with Vivienne Westwood?
Miss Piggy: Yes. Um right now Vivienne Westwood is my favorite. She made me some exquisite dresses, including a certain white gown.
Kermit:I’ve seen it, I’ve seen it.
Miss Piggy: That I wear down a certain aisle in the movie.
Kermit: Which you uh — you– fortunately didn’t get to keep your wardrobe.
Miss Piggy: Well I, I can call her. I can call Vivian. I’m sure she’d let me borrow it again you know.
Kermit: No, no, no. I — [CLEARS THROAT] That’s okay.
Miss Piggy: Just once. That’s all it takes.
Kermit: That’s okay. Okay.
Miss Piggy: Anyways, I love her fashions. And the dress that she made is really quite something. It’s actually made out of recycled plastic.
Kermit: Yeah it smells like sour milk. [LAUGHS] But it looks great, it looks great!
Indeed the dress looks great – just like all The Muppets do in Muppets Most Wanted, which is in theaters on 3/21/2014
Now, for a fun tidbit… did you know Miss Piggy gets her voice from a man? It’s true! Eric Jacobson is the talented performer, who also gives voice to Fozzie Bear and Animal!
I caught up with both Eric Jacobson and Matt Vogel (Constantine) at the Muppets Most Wanted Premiere after party, and they were quick to throw in a few lines from their counterparts! Amazing!
