Scholastic Parent & Child believes that one of the best ways to connect with your child is through conversation. I was recently introduced to the KidQ app for iPhone and Android, where fun conversations are facilitated through Q&A’s about the things that kids (and their parents!) are the most curious about.
It’s an app I was extremely happy about adding to my son’s iTouch. With questions like Is it true that bullfrogs don’t sleep? and How do the bubbles get in soda? I know he’s learning and increasing his knowledge and still having fun! Each day, users will receive a playful question that serves as a great conversation starter. They are then provided with the official answer. It’s great to read the question as a family and compare explanations afterwards! My family enjoys playing this while we wait for our meal or while waiting at the doctor’s office.
- A random question generator.
- A prompt (button) that provides answers and “fun facts” for each question.
- Sharing on both Twitter and Facebook, so users can promote the app to friends and family.
- A simple settings menu for logging into Facebook & Twitter, and adjusting app settings.

One of our favorite questions: Why do yummy smells fill the house when food is cooking or baking? It’s always interesting to hear what my children will come up with and how the three children’s answers are the same or different! I love that my children are picking up on facts when the answers are provided to them! We had fun playing this game with grandparents, too. I bet a teacher could spend quite some time on the questions, if she ever found herself with some extra free time in class!
