moody gardens

My family recently visited Moody Gardens in Galveston, TX for a weekend getaway.  From the moment we arrived, we were treated as guests rather than customers.  From the free parking to the smooth check-in, we were sure to get settled into our room just as quickly as we drove up to the location.

Upon entering the room, I knew it would be hard to leave.  Did you see how beautiful that picture was?  The room was also very comfortable for a family, with everyone having their own space (or as much as you’d need in a hotel!)

The comfort didn’t stop with the beds.  The bathroom was luxurious, the tv was large, there were robes ready for you in the closet… And since the room was this welcoming, we decided to tour the resort, even though it was late at night!  We found an outdoor swimming pool, a relaxing hot tub, a poolside bar to swim up to, a bounce house welcoming children and an alligator resting in it’s habitat.  *Yes, I am serious. You never know what you will find around the corner.  In our case, an alligator!

It was hard to get my children to bed, but I knew there was so much more fun in store!  I couldn’t wait to surprise them with a trip to the attractions!

We headed to the Rainforest first, because I knew it was early in the day and I knew it would get hotter inside the exhibit as the day went on.  We saw a variety of animals including birds, seals, snakes, fish, butterflies and a monkey!  My older son enjoyed reading animal facts as we toured, while my younger son identified the animal sounds as they played.

We then headed to the Aquarium, where my children begged to see the penguins! It was fun to see them ready to play in the window – you can tell they love the attention they receive!  We also walked through an aquarium tunnel, touched a starfish and read interesting facts about sharks!  I appreciated the fact that my children wanted to read all of the signs and take a look at all the displays! I love when my children pick up on the learning opportunities available to them!

Ziplining is extremely fun for me, so I was excited about this!  My son (9 years old) decided to zipline, too, but started having second thoughts as he walked higher and higher up the stairs.  I coaxed him into walking to the top, and told him he could make a decision there.  I must say, the Moody Gardens employee was so relaxed and assuring with her words; more so that my son quickly dismissed his fears and went for it!  Since the zip line has two cables, you get to “ride” twice.  It was great to hear my son say it was “amazing” and “fun”.  I couldn’t agree with him more! Moody Gardens is a fun, family friendly place to stay for the day or weekend.  With a restaurant, attractions and stores nearby, this is a great place to visit when you are visiting Galveston, Texas.
