My children get so excited when given the opportunity to play with Play-Doh. Who doesn’t? It’s always a joy to roll, squish and make your own creations, all while enjoying that distinctive scent of, well, Play-Doh!
Three out of five members of our family will admit that they absolutely love Elmo and the Sesame Street Characters. (I’m working on getting my husband to admit it, too!) And of course, five out of five members of our family love Play-Doh! Combine two of our favorites, and you get the new Play-Doh Shape and Spin Elmo.
Shape & Spin Elmo has two fun play modes: Mode 1 – Elmo helps to teach your child his or her shapes by announcing what each shape is. You can make six shapes, including a circle, hexagon, square, triangle, pentagon and octagon. When you press the button on the front of the toy, Elmo will announce what shape your child has just made and he counts the shapes, too. Mode 2 – Elmo asks your child to make specific shapes and corrects your child when they don’t make the one he asked for. Elmo helps by describing the shapes by telling your child how many sides each one has. Through advanced play, Elmo asks your child to make a specific shape based on the number of sides only.
My children enjoyed playing with the Shape & Spin Elmo and I enjoyed that they were learning different shapes at the same time. My six year old helped correct my four year old, who was helping to correct my one year old who was insisting that a circle could be a square, etc. Once my one year old was napping, we took out the toy again, and to my surprise, my four year was able to tell me that an octagon has 8 sides! My two older children could have played with this toy for hours! I could have, too!
This is a great toy that combines learning with fun! I would recommend this for children 3-5, though my six year old enjoyed it, too. Maybe if the character was more on his ‘level’, I would recommend it for an older child. Not that I am not recommending it for older children, it’s just that I wouldn’t give this gift to a six year old boy for his birthday party. Unless it was Super hero’s or Lego or Transformers.
The product comes with the playset (which is easliy put together), a playmat, 3 face plates (with Sesame Street characters on them), 3-3oz cans of Play-Doh modeling compound (yellow, blue and red) and Batteries (don’t you love when batteries are included!). The product retails for $19.99.
*There are many Play-Doh ideas on the Hasbro website! This will be great for summer fun!
