While on a press trip to Los Angeles, I was given the opportunity to attend a pre-screening of the movie Disneynature BEARS before visiting the Los Angeles Zoo.
BEARS is an interesting documentary – the latest in the long lineup for releases in time for Earth Day – where crew members follow the journey of a family of bears: Sky and her two cubs, Scout and Amber. We learn with the cubs that life has both trials and tribulations along the way!
Actor John C. Reilly narrates the story as we watch the bears from birth to hibernation to daily living, where bears have to face the cold weather in Alaska and begin their hunt for food! The bears soon learn that while it may be fun to slide down a mountain of snow, there is always a threat of predators, whether it be avalanches or other animals! It was interesting to see how Sky, Amber and Scout must fight for survival, while remaining on their search for food to eat!
While watching BEARS, you can’t help but wonder what the filming process is like. The crew has to get close to the bears and predators, but stay far away so they don’t interrupt the natural instincts… and you see the amazing work of the crew in the credits after the film. Can you imagine being that close?
