Walmart Family Mobile Unlimited Plans

 Unlimited Plans

My husband and I have been contemplating the fact that our 9 year old will soon be in need of a cell phone.  Though I think 9 is still too young, lots of his friends have cell phones and we are choosing to give my son a phone based on his responsibilities.  This phone will come with a (close-to) zero tolerance policy, though.  I set rules.  And because of the rules, if he chooses to make a bad choice, the phone will be taken away.  So I need a cheap wireless plan without a contract!

I was sent a T-Mobile Concord phone in the mail and was introduced to the Walmart Family Mobile plan.  I briefly mentioned the phone to my son before I told him we were heading to Walmart to purchase the starter kit.  He was excited to have his phone the phone activated!

Family Mobile

I was impressed with the simplicity of the Family Mobile Unlimited Plans.  First off, I love the fact that there are no contracts.  The Unlimited Plans include unlimited talk, text and web, and is currently on rollback for $39.88.  There is also a new unlimited talk and text plan for $29.88 (which is great for children).  My husband and I pay so much more than that for one month – and neither of us have unlimited talk, text or web!  For about $120/month, the three of us would have an unlimited plan!  That’s almost the same as what we pay now, but look at the “extras” we’d be getting:  a third line and no limits (…and let’s not forget the extra happy son, too)!

We were able to spot the Family Mobile area easily, and found the activation kit we needed to purchase.  The activation kit is $25, and the actual activation process only takes about 5 minutes.  You can either activate the phone at home through the online account management site or right in the store, which is what we did since we were already there!

The Concord is a nice phone, easy to use and perfect for someone who is being introduced to a smart phone for the first time.  (Maybe my husband should give up his 1990 flip phone for one of these?  That wouldn’t be a bad idea considering the Concord is on rollback right now, too!)  The Concord is currently $79.88 (was $99.88) and the MyTouch devices are currently $129.88 (was $129.88).

Stay tuned to read about my experience with the Family Mobile plan and service.  I’ll be updating with my story next month!

That really does look like a great deal. We are rapidly moving into the need to have several phones and this might be the perfect solution.

Our 2 year contract is up in October and I am going to start from square one trying to find a better plan. This one sounds promising!

We do all our shopping at Wal-Mart, but I’ve never looked into their mobile plans.. I’ll have to do that when our current contracts are up. Thanks for the great info!

We need to check into that … it sounds much better than what we have now.

I love how flexible and affordable this plan is – perfect for adding a line for the kids! It is so important to be able to monitor their usage and what they can access but what a great motivating tool, especially when the plan is no contract. There are so many times it is helpful for the kids to have their own phones and the affordability of this plan and no need to commit long term makes it ideal. Thanks for sharing your discovery – I’m looking forward to reading more about your experience 🙂
