4 Easy Steps to Clean Your Washing Machine #DIY

Dawn Monroe 5 Comments

We’ve had our current washing machine for several years.  It has never been cleaned.  Yuck, I know.  Today, I decided to clean it – not because it was functioning poorly, but because I’m sure after years of build-up, it needs to be cleaned!

clean your washing machine

Step 1: Fill the washing machine with warm water and pour in 2 cups of white vinegar.  (I do this on the super load size.)  Let it set for 1-2 hours.

Step 2: Take a sponge and wipe down the walls and center part of the washing machine.

Step 3: Start the washing machine and let it complete the cycle.

Step 4: Fill washing machine again and pour in 2 cups of bleach, to disinfect.  Let it soak for 1 hour before letting it run through a complete cycle.

Once the cycle has finished, it should be nice and shiny!

*DO NOT mix vinegar and bleach.  You MUST make sure you are doing each step separately, to prevent toxic fumes.

Great tips of cleaning a washing machine. Most of us don’t know how to clean a washing machine. I am using washing machine from last 3 years but i don’t know how exactly we can wash it. So that we can run it for longer period of time.

Skip the bleach. The vinegar alone will do just as good.

You can use lemon instead of bleach or even peroxide.

I’ve never done this either, though it comes at a terrible time as our laundry room just flooded tonight. Ugh!!!
