I have always believed that a weekend’s purpose was for family fun.  With four children, it can often pose a challenge with finding fun activities that appeal and entertain a variety of ages and stages.  Some of our favorite activities include feeding the ducks, visiting the zoo, going to the park and spending the day at a museum.  The Perot Museum in Dallas is one place we visit quite often.  …and if you told me I would ever sleep in the Perot Museum, I would have laughed and said “impossible.”  But I was so wrong.  (Did you know about the Perot Museum Sleepovers?)

Perot Museum Sleepovers: Snore and Explore!

The Perot Museum in Dallas, Texas offers sleepovers nearly once a month, and I’m telling you, this was a one of a kind experience!  My children loved it!

Attendees can go behind the scenes at the Perot Museum with after-hours access to intriguing exhibits, a live science show, and hands-on discovery — with a late-night snack, 3D movie and light breakfast to round out the experience.  The sleepovers are designed for children ages 6-14, and it definitely entertained us all!

Each museum sleepover has a theme.  February’s theme? Grossology.

We had a night of slime, buts, boogers and poop.  Eww, right? It was very interesting!  We even dissected a cow’s eye and learned where our trash goes after it hits the trash can! (Yes, that is my daughter holding a cow eye she just helped cut into.)

Take a look at the schedule of events to see how our night went:

“But where did you sleep?”

That might be the question I’ve been asked a time or two when telling friends about our night.  To answer the question, we literally slept within the exhibits, on the floor of our choosing!  My children thought hard about the exhibit they wanted to sleep in, and they debated on gemstones vs dinosaurs for a few minutes! (Gemstones won, and who wouldn’t want to stare at a gorgeous amethyst geode while falling asleep!?)
