We moved to Texas, from south Louisiana, about 8 years ago. Other than family, there’s one thing I miss, and that’s the availability of fried seafood. True cajun food is hard to find in north Texas… or so I thought. I was recently introduced to Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe and my world changed for the better!
When we first walked into Razzoo’s in Fort Worth, I took note of the welcoming and fun atmosphere. The waitress was friendly, and the alligator, crawfish and crab displays let me know I was in the right place!
When the waitress presented the menu, it took a moment for me to grasp. THIS was the food I had been waiting for, yet I had no idea what I wanted to try first!
“Authentic Cajun food, made from scratch daily.”
We started with the Boudin Balls, which were 6 fried balls of pure perfection. If you like boudin, you have to try this appetizer! (I could have eaten this as a meal, but you know I wanted more!)
And more is what I got! This is the Seafood Combo Platter, which consists of fried shrimp, catfish, crawfish tails, corn on the cob, french fries and 3 dipping sauces! The portions were huge, and I probably should have shared this with my son. Instead, I brought home the leftovers for lunch, so I could eat more the next day. I would love to try something different on my next visit, but I already know this is what I would order!
We also tried the Cajun Combo Skillet. Imagine grilled andouille sausage, shrimp creole, crawfish etouffee AND red beans & rice… all in one entree! DELISH. My son gave me a bite, but I was so stuffed from the entree I had ordered that he was forced to eat every bite of this himself! ::teenagers:: I did try the etoufee, and it was just like my mom cooks back home. Eating at Razzoo’s kind of made me homesick!
… a homesick that I forgot about once we were offered dessert! Y’all. Have you ever had a bread pudding made from french bread? How about a bread pudding made with peaches, pecans, french bread and an amazing rum sauce?
This was like Louisiana on a plate. I know why it’s a top seller, just as the Zydeco Dancer is!
(Cheesecake, strawberries and a pecan graham cracker crust. Need I say more?)
Though we didn’t order drinks from the bar, Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe offers a great selection, with a variety of specialty drinks. I’d love to try each of these, but will probably save that for a fun date night or Mom’s Night Out!
