One of my children;s favorite restaurants is undoubtedly Rainforest Cafe. When I say we’re going to Grapevine, TX, that is their restaurant of choice for dinner! (It may just be my top choice for a family fun dinner, too!)
Once you enter the restaurant, you are immediately taken on an adventure through the Rainforest, spotting tigers, gorillas, snakes, elephants, tropical fish and more. The restaurant is literally decorated from top to bottom, providing surroundings that are not only unique, but entertaining as well.
As you check in with the host, he or she introduces you to the layout of the restaurant before introducing you to your server. We were seated and my children were each given a menu, which has a fun games and a scavenger hunt inside! I love when my children are entertained and interested in the activities and atmosphere while waiting for our meal.
Our meals arrived rather quickly, and I could not wait to dive into my selection: Macadamia Crusted Talipa and Coconut Shrimp (My mouth is watering just repeating those words… it was that good!) Read the description:
Fillet of Tilapia brushed with cream of coconut, toppedwith our macadamia nut crust and baked to perfection.Served with a tangy teriyaki glaze and mango purΓ©e.Paired with our Coconut Shrimp
My husband ordered a dish called: Taste of the Islands, which was indeed a taste of the islands: Coconut Shrimp, Blackened Tilapia topped with a mango salsa and Dynamite Scallops and Shrimp. I tried convincing him the Coconut Shrimp was not good, so I could have some of his, too, but it didn’t work. After one bite of his meal I knew he wouldn’t believe me because everything else had such a great flavor. It was worth a try!
Our children each ordered the Shrimpkens, which is a combination of Popcorn shrimp and Jurassic Chicken Tidbits. I appreciated the layout of the children’s menu, which offered healthier options of fresh fruit and steamed vegetables compared to only offering french fries or chips. In our case, I tell each child they have to order a different side than their sibling, but they can share once the meal is served. This way, one child orders french fries, another orders fruit and another orders applesauce, but they all end up with a combination of the three.
Why do I like to go healthier for dinner? Because dessert comes shortly afterwards!
Yes, that was DESSERT! We ordered the Volcano for two reasons: 1, our server suggested it and 2, we read the description. Oh my word. If my son’s picture (above) doesn’t speak for the Volcano, nothing else will! Imagine ice cream, brownies, whipped cream and syrup built into a volcano that explodes with yummy goodness! It’s huge and more than enough for a family to share!
Rainforest Cafe restaurants can be found in over 20 locations around the country, and well worth the visit!

I love Rainforest Cafe. We’ve never gone to the one in Grapevine, but I have been to the one in Disney. So much fun to have there and great food, too!!
We recently took our 2 year old grandson there. The atmosphere is definitely fun, but I found it to be overpriced and even though it was a slow weekday, we waited sooooo long for our food, which was mediocre for what we spent. Just my humble opinion.
Love the Rainforest Cafe! I wish there was one closer to us.

My teens loved the Rainforest Cafe. I think their affection may have something to do with that Volcano Cake! π
Love this place – when my parents were visiting for Thanksgiving they took my family for mine and my husband’s birthday and we ordered the Volcano…we had to share it among 5 of us because it was so huge! My dad thought the gorillas and the rain storm was the bees knees!

We hit the Rainforest Cafe while in Disney and loved it. Wow, that Volcano dessert is just humongous.
